Portable power station for car emergency start operation

Jun. 19, 2025

Portable power station (usually equipped with car emergency start function) is an important safety tool for self-driving travel. Its operation must strictly follow the specifications to avoid damage to the vehicle or equipment. The following is a detailed use process, precautions and safety points:

I. Preparation before operation

1. Confirm the compatibility of the equipment

·Applicable models:

·Ordinary fuel vehicles (12V battery, displacement ≤6.0L); some high-end models support diesel vehicles or 24V systems (product parameters must be confirmed in advance).

·❌ It is prohibited to use it in hybrid vehicles (such as Toyota Camry Hybrid) and electric vehicles (such as Tesla)!

·Check the battery status:

·Confirm that the car battery is a lead-acid battery (common black rectangular with positive and negative poles), not a lithium-ion starter battery (equipped with very few models).

·Observe whether the battery is leaking, bulging or corroded. If the electrode is severely oxidized, it needs to be cleaned first (rinse with sandpaper or hot water and wipe dry).

2. Equipment status check

·Power requirement: The power of the starting power supply must be ≥50% (some models require ≥30%, subject to the manual). Low power may cause startup failure or damage the equipment.

·Wire connection check:

·Confirm that the attached emergency starting clip (commonly known as "crossing the river dragon") is not damaged, the wire core is exposed, and the clip spring is moderately tight.

·The red clip (+) and the black clip (-) are clearly marked to avoid confusion.

2. Standard operating procedures

1. Connect the starting clip

·Step 1: Turn off all electrical equipment in the vehicle

Make sure that the lights, air conditioner, audio, etc. are all turned off to avoid current overload during startup.

·Step 2: Find the positive and negative poles of the car battery

·Positive pole (+): usually marked with "+" or a red protective cover, with a thicker pole head;

·Negative pole (-): marked with "-" or black, and the negative pole of some models is connected to the metal of the car body (grounding point).

·Step 3: Correctly clamp the electrodes

·Red positive clamp: First clamp the “+” port of the power source, then clamp the positive pole of the car battery (make sure to clamp tightly to avoid loose connection);

·Black negative clamp: First clamp the “-” port of the power source, then clamp the negative pole of the car battery or the metal of the car body (need to stay away from the battery, choose an unpainted metal part).
